OUR HISTORY Global Hands of Healing was launched in 1998 when a group of individuals who wanted to make a difference in the world met in a Methodist church in Hurst, Texas. Fourteen years and dozens of mission trips later, teams of volunteers and health care professionals have provided more than $3 million in health care services to impoverished villages and cities throughout Mexico and Central America.
The work of Global Hands of Healing has changed lives. For recipients of health care services, the temporary health clinics have provided diagnostic tests and treatments that were otherwise unavailable. Volunteer health providers have cared for individuals, some up to 90 years old, who have never been treated by a physician or dentist during their lifetimes. Volunteer health care providers have saved the lives of critically ill patients.
Yet the value of such experiences is not felt exclusively by those
receiving health care services. Volunteer providers often return from
such clinical experiences as changed people. Frequently, team members
say they will “never see the world in the same way again.”
